1. Greg Ward Jr., QB, Houston It’s been 27 years since Andre Ware dazzled college football on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy, and it remains completely possible that the Cougars will soon have to build a new display case next to his trophy if the super-talented Ward lives up to the hype this season. He topped the 1,000-yard rushing mark last season to go along with his nearly 3,000 yards through the air and should easily better both numbers in 2016 after another offseason under quarterback guru Tom Herman. While most Group of Five candidates for the Heisman will have a tough time getting enough traction, a win over a top-five team like Oklahoma in the opener and keeping the Cougars undefeated and in the hunt for the College Football Playoff each week will be more than enough to ensure Ward has a real shot at being called the sport’s most outstanding player.
