2017 Week 2 CFB Rankings

3 votes in the coaches poll.

I’ll never understand the ND hype. Someone in preseason said they were a CFP dark horse, and that’s just laughable.

Received 14 votes AP poll, without playing a game !
If we torch Arizona, we are likely sniffing it next week :flushed:

Shall we play a game and see where Texas’ 3 points came from in the coaches poll?

I highlighted the usual suspects but my guess is Tom ranking UT as 23rd. I really hope Applewhite didn’t list UT.

AP Votes: Got a #15 vote from Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun and a #23 vote from Matt Brown of Sports on Earth.

In the preseason poll, Dooley had us at #14, Brown had us at #23, Kirk Bohls had us at #23, and Rece Davis had us at #25; Bohls and Davis dropped us off their ballots this week.

Applewhite’s a UT alum, his mentor’s coaching there, and they just bailed us out of a tough spot. Why wouldn’t he have voted UT?

Because they had three previous losing seasons, are 0-1, lost at home and to an unranked team. Seems like 4 pretty good reasons not to vote your old school 25th in the nation.

Why is there even a coaches poll? Do they even have time to pay attention to how everyone else is playing? They focus on their next opponent. Sportswriters/commentators watch a LOT of games and have a better feel for who is playing well.

Also, we had 19 votes in the AP preseason poll. So we lose 5 votes because we didn’t play?! Sheesh. Lost 4 votes in Coaches poll.

No, most of the time, the coach gives it to a SID who votes. Usually, the coach only really focuses on the first and last one.

Writers don’t really watch all the games either and generally glance at box scores (maybe).

Really, the polls don’t matter anymore with the playoff committee in place. The committee has shown that they are willing to make decisions respective of where the polls have teams.
