The transition from college ball to the professional level has challenged Julks.
Not unlike the process River Bandits teammate Jake Adams is working through as well, Julksâ swing was rebuilt last season during his 32 games with short-season Tri-City.
He hit .176 for the New York-Penn League club a year ago and through 41 Midwest League games carries a .248 batting average for Quad-Cities, including a .281 average over his last 10 games.
Julks also leads Quad-Cities with 13 stolen bases in 19 attempts, ranking fifth in the Midwest League in steals, shares second on the River Bandits with four homers and shares third on the team with seven doubles and 15 walks.
His work is providing glimpses of the potential manager Mickey Storey sees in Julksâ game.
Itâll be interesting to see if Fletcher can catch him.
Monthly update on the Pro Coogs. Three promotions as Pruitt was recalled to the Rays, Dowdy was promoted to AAA by the Tigers, and Kasowski was moved up to A+ (and reunited with Wong) by the Dodgers. Hoping to see Lantrip finally start his minor league career when the AZL leagues start up.
Iâve added the drafted guys, but they havenât signed yet and there hasnât been news of where they will be assigned. Not even sure Taylor will leave Illinois as he still has 1 year of eligibility left.

Glad he made it. Heâs deserved it and has come back just as strong from before the injury.
Any word of UDFA signings? Specifically, Connor Hollis or Joe Davis?
No, most teams are still trying to sign their draft picks at this point. Gulf Coast League and AZL start today so we may hear something soon.
Iâd be surprised if Davis ends up as an UDFA. He should be coming back.
June Pro Coog Update:
Promotions:
- Julks promoted to A+ on Jun 15th
- Hollis was assigned to Tampaâs Rk team
- Pruitt was sent down Jun 22nd, but was promoted back to Tampa on Jun 25th
- Poncedeleon was promoted to St. Louis, but didnât make an appearance before being sent back down 3 days later
- Cumbie started at Tampaâs Low A Ball team
- Fletcher made one start in Rk ball and was promoted to Low A Ball
- Pulido was moved from one Rk team to another
- Lawson was assigned to Atlantaâs Rk team
On the hitting side: Rice had a nice month, Scheiner stayed steady, and Julks has done well with the promotion.
For the pitchers: Pruittâs looked good in Tampa, and most everyone has looked good so far. Rookie leagues started and I couldnât find Lantrip or King assigned to clubs yet.

Simon Landry hasnât signed yet with the Dodgers, which would be AMAZING for the 2019 line up. Youâd think a later-middle rounds pick would have signed by now, but its certainly possibly he could still sign and forego attending UH.
