Wouldn’t worry too much about the Cool rankings, especially at this stage. The rankings usually only warm up if the recruit releases a Top 5-10 list or officially visits the school.
Problem with being a G5; we’re offering a lot of top recruits, but most won’t commit to us this early. Herman got a lot by pressuring kids to commit and save a slot; helped in the rankings early and helped him get a job elsewhere, but once they got a better offer, they took off. Not sure how Applewhite will operate as he seems to really want kids that want to be here and not just to boost the ranking.
The way we can mitigated the G5 stigma you speak of is to promote UH as a brand, and keep winning. I hope a lot of the recruits think just because UH is not in a P5 can’t offer almost everything a P5 school could.
If we had a better track record of these 4/5 star guys actually staying home, I think you would have a point. Until then, it appears CMA is putting feelers out everywhere and I have no problem with that. We have had really good luck getting good players from Louisiana the last few years, and CMA has great ties there. If we continue to get good talent, we’ll continue winning and maybe more of these Houston kids will stay home.
You do know that there is talent beyond Houston, right. Some of the top players in the state are deciding to play for LSU, Ohio St, & Oklahoma. There is nothing wrong with expanding the UH brand further. Why limit UH of it’s potential.
Having players leaving early for the NFL , and getting them drafted early , has open up the eyes of other recruits from Louisiana, and other states.
This is the route UH has to take not being a P5 school. Have to find creative ways in promoting the school football program.
He was at the Opening football camp the same day as UH junior day, but I don’t believe he made it over to UH that day. He’s attending OU’s junior day this upcoming weekend and he’s got 23 total offers, many from P5 schools.
Houston is a hotbed of talent, but so are other areas. I’m glad CMA isn’t limiting himself to only Houston or only in state prospects personally. There’s no reason to limit our team to Houston talent if there’s Louisiana or Oklahoma or wherever talent that’s interested in coming here.
Agree. H-Town Takeover can’t limit itself to just the greater Houston area or even Texas for that matter.
Major & Assoc. know that UH must pursue the best talent available to grow our brand and build our reputation!
I don’t know. If I was a recruit seeing the talent CMA is reaching out to it would grab my attention.
UH is the winningest team in Texas,
-has recruited 5-star talent,
-played in a NY6 bowl,
-knocked off not one but TWO Top 5 teams last year, -just beat the crap out of the Heisman QB (sacking him 11 times),
-is one of only a handful of teams with both a Heisman Trophy and a Limbardi Trophy, and
-resides in one of the major metro areas of the nation with literally boundless entertainment possibilities,
-oh, and is one of the hottest job markets in America,
well, then I just might want to give that place a look.
I might of overrated Judas as a recruiter. I don’t think he will bring a Top 10 class to Austin in 2018. Speaks more about how players love to come play at UH than just the coach.
