Benefits of winning, getting to face UCONN and USF twice this year. Should help the home attendance.

Aggies were 16th in RPI last year. Coogs hung with them for 3 quarters last year before getting drubbed in the 4th quarter of the opner. Should be a really good litmus test for how good this year’s team will be and a nice opener for Fertitta.

Coach Hughey wasn’t messing around when he said he was going to start scheduling up. Coogs have 3 games against top 100 teams, and only 4 games against teams below 200 in the RPI (1 over 300). This is an NCAA tourney level non-con schedule…add in 2 games against UCONN and USF and the Coogs won’t miss the tourney this year because of schedule weakness. Great job, Coach.
HUGHEY AND COOGS ANNOUNCE NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE; “WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO MAKE THE JUMP.”
The HRR: Coach, this non-conference schedule looks to be the most difficult non-conference schedule you’ve had in your time at UH. Have you lost your mind?
Coach Hughey: Well, Kris, we actually found our mind. Our competitive mind!
Before we get to the games, our first scrimmage is against Oklahoma State. If you want to get better, you’ve got to go and practice against the best. We’re also scrimmaging against Mississippi State.
The American schedule features 12 national broadcasts, including the league opener against NCAA Tournament semifinalist UConn on Jan. 6. Tipoff against the Huskies is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, and will air on CBSSN in the first American game played inside the Fertitta Center.
