The American Athletic Conference released its All-Academic Team, and the University of Houston’s focus on building Champions for Life was evident as 202 student-athletes were named to the team after posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2017-18 academic year.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The Cougars’ 2017-18 total marked an increase of 27 student-athletes from the 2016-17 academic year.
Among Houston’s teams, Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field led the way with 36 honorees, while Swimming & Diving was second with 30 honorees. Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field rounded out the top three with 26 honorees.
