The money is getting obscene. It makes me just want to hire someone for 4-years to a set contract. No negotiations after the contract is in effect. In 4 years, when his contract is up, shake hands and wish him good luck, and go find the next up-and-comer. There would be no holding a school hostage, no crazy raises, everything would be kept fresh, no worrying about if he is going to leave or not, because if he does, you just go get the next guy.
Schools canât/wonât agree on a system that limits coaching contracts in a nation wide manner or they would just be sued for collusion. Itâs really the fans/donors fault anyway. They are the ones that demand the hiring of high profile coaches regardless of the schools budget deficit. After hiring Applewhite, a good chunk of our fans are closely watching other coaches that would have cost us more. The other coaches that fail will be vindication for fans that supported Applewhiteâs hiring and the coaches that success will be vindication for the fans that said we should have spent more.
I for one would like to see a head coach that hires the best recruiting coaches and then tailors the offense and defense best suited for the talent they have recruited. For example next year, with King and Bryson, an option heavy offense and with Oliver and so many talented defensive lineman we have recruited the last 2 years, changing to a 4-3 defense for a year.
Matt Luke hired at Ole Miss as they remove the interim tag.
Iâm hearing a handful of rumors that Norvell has some skeletons in his closet that scared away Arkansas and Tennessee.
Mike Gundy to Tennessee?
Mike Gundy to Tennessee is interesting, Iâm not sure if his offense will be as effective as it is in the big 12. But he will definitely have better athletes at Tennessee than Oklahoma State. And I think heâll be able to bring Top 10 recruiting class there where he might not be able to at Oklahoma state
In a delicious bit of serendipity a mullet is also called a " Tennessee Tophat "
Gundy to Tenn!
K Briles to UTEP getting some play. He should wait IMOâŠgotta be better options.
A few random UTEP thoughts.
Tim Floyd just quit as hoop coach. When was the last time a football & hoop HC quit during the season in the same year?
I see an UTEP Olineman listed as a possible 1st rounder. Talk about a rose among the thorns.
Not sure there will be many options for K.Briles anytime soon and UTEP might be a good fit to rehab his image while/if things get worked out on the Baylor front.
â:Briles and Harrell are heirs apparent to the head coaching job at the schools they are at, and how much longer will the guys in front of them, FAUâs Lane Kiffin and North Texasâ Seth Littrell, stay where they are?â
Wait & Boca or El Paso now?
Memphis is a better job than Arkansas.
Just thinking about it, big problem with Briles at UTEP is whether the UT BOR would allow it. Theyâve allowed Mike Price and Tim Floyd out in El Paso so itâs not as if they havenât brought in guys with dirty resumes before. This is much more high profile, happened in Texas, and there would probably be much more blowback in Austin.
Really !
WOW. If thatâs not a reach I donât know what is.
He gone.
