Lane Kiffin said that when he was OC, He had two analyst who had already broken down the next opponent.
Kiffin said “Its certainly better than having an grad assistant do it.”
NCAA is going to have to regulate these “analysts” like they do number of “coaches.”
This is going to get completely out of hand, if it hasn’t already.
The unlimited money programs are going to have huge staffs of “former HCs” who are in this quasi-coaching capacity.
The impact is not just in the film room, think of their recruiting contacts.
Alabama’s support staff is ridiculous. I believe they have 400 support staff for the football team and 8-10 strength and conditioning coaches. A few years back, Charlie Weis and Mike Locksley were analysts that helped break down tape for the offense as analysts. Alabama isn’t just beating teams on the field with athletes.

This is not new. Major props to saban. The best Coaches have an open mind & are not afraid to delegate with competent/expert assistants. Analytics & how to use is key. belichick has done it for years with the Patriots. That is why they are on top. To be able to incorporate Run N Shoot plays in his offense is an example of many. Offenses & defenses constantly evolve. To be “stuck” in neutral is a recipe for failure. That is why so many Head Coach, OC & DC lose their jobs or move around so much. You gotta be creative with sound fundamentals. The business sector operates the same way.

Of course it’s smart, no question. But being that NCAA has limits on how many coaches you can have…is it fair? You can’t compare private sector business to college sports with coach limits…NFL yes.
Hypothetically…UH is to play Bama in week 5 or 6, middle season…Bama has had two experienced “coaches” not only breakdown the film…but also have recommendations for play calling for OC when he walks in Sunday morning. They can now spend a good part of their week prepping for week after UH. The OC will do gameplan off their reports.
UH OC and DC have to come in 6am Sunday and game plan after breaking down film. They have been provided down and distance tendency chart prepped by a Grad Asst. It’s not an equal playing field.
