OT: Baylor Scandal(s)

Really?

WHAT IF…Baylor is kicked out of the big12?
What are the chances we are picked up as a replacement?
Is this the method that we want to be included into a P5?
Should we take the offer with so much uncertainty looming over the big12?
Will we be seen as an actual P5 team by the rest of the big12 if this is our method of entrance?

I’m not so confident behind an acceptance via this method. What if we enter the big12 and our first couple of years are rough due to needing to catch up recruiting, talent, and financially? It could put us out of a NY6 bowl for a long time. We’d be out of the national spotlight. I think long term, if the big12 fails, there’s a good chance we’ll still be left out of the picture, again.

I think there is a good chance of acceptance as the politics in Texas would probably still be on our side and we’d be an easy fit at that point.

We’d take it in a heartbeat if it’s offered. The money we’d make would be at least 6x what we make now and probably more than that.

It’s not an ideal way of getting into a P5, but we’d take it. In 2-3 years, we’d be accepted as P5 if we pull our weight enough. Look at Louisville, TCU…nobody really looks at them as former G5 schools. As far as the Big12, who knows. We’d probably be treated as we always have which is looked down upon by our Texas brethren. The others, probably not so much.

As far as catching up with recruiting, etc, yep, it would be hard at first, but it’s not like we’d be going into the SEC. We could probably beat half the conference right now in football. I see a TCU like transition: struggle at first, get stronger as time goes on.

In the future, I think it would be easier to be accepted into another P5 if we are already P5. Plus, we could make valuable allies with others in the conference as we’d be in the same room consistently. That’s the rub; say Kansas is looking for a partner because OU/UT went to the B1G. Who would be their best option at that point to partner with?

Ultimately I think the chances are low of this scenario playing out. I think everyone knows the Big12 is dead man walking and it would be easier to ignore it and go there separate ways in a decade. Otherwise, booting Baylor would cause lawsuits that the Big12 may not want to see. It really depends on how much more comes out though. I think if Dodds was still at Texas, Baylor would have been booted last year. Of course, if he was still there, we wouldn’t have s chance in hell of getting an invite.

You can’t make this stuff up. New strength coach arrested for prostitution solicitation.

It’s lonely in Waco.

Just 25%?

To your point Eric but wait could we actually see more coming? espn thinks there is smoke and maybe…

Imo, the biggest question in this is really about women’s right. This could be the turning point for the ncaa.
We are going to see if they have any cojones. For sure the storm seems to be brewing for Baylor.

“No other university in the country has responded as aggressively and decisively as Baylor regarding incidents of sexual assaults on its campus.”

The University as a whole needs to be held accountable. Firing the HC and AD is not enough.

One of the biggest mistakes that Baylor did was not to replace the BOR. This was and is absolutely insane on their parts. They think they are above the law.
Any public comment(s) from Drayton McLane?

That is just a slap on the wrist. They should have taken 50% revenue away for 5 years plus reduce scholarships to 10. That would have sent a message that creating a culture of rape will not be tolerated.

This is a token gesture to say that they are not just completely ignoring it. The sooner that it gets out of the news cycle, the happier the B12 will be and then it’s back to bidness.

McLane has been on the record about more transparency from the board. Sadly, that may have been in defense of Art Briles; he hasn’t spoken since the new allegations.

This “punishment” is a joke as @Dan stated. Big12 is trying to show that they are acting on this problem by withholding a small amount that Baylor will get back. Dog and pony show.

Sounds like it’s likely that Baylor is put on probation for their Title IX issues which is one step away from losing accreditation.

Poor Mack; such a tough situation for him. And he’s trying so hard that he kept all the assistants on board and wrote them letters of recommendation for other jobs.

Since no one else is going to do it, the Big 12 took Baylor into its own hands and then crushed it with a fluffy, satin-covered pillow.

The official suggested any money withheld from Baylor’s league revenue “possibly” should be donated to a fund for the female victims of the Baylor athletes “but not if that gets (Baylor) off the hook. They need to pay for their sins. Maybe use it to educate and train athletes around the conference on this issue.”

Education and training are good and relevant. But so should be a penalty.

The official said he has not heard any informal discussion about removing Baylor from the Big 12, but added if it were up to him, “I’d swap them for Houston.”

So, this is Chip Brown, so take it with a HUGE grain of salt:

Most of it is the normal gnashing its teeth at Baylor, but the last part is where things get wild. Chip’s saying that he’s got sources saying that Baylor Regents purposely left the Title IX position unfilled from '11-'14 to get Starr fired. If true…man…shut it down, board it up, burn it down.
