OT: Baylor Scandal(s)

“John [Segrest] goes on camera and says that Carlton’s two court-appointed Baylor attorneys come to him and say, ‘We don’t even want to get this to trial; let’s plead this because it’s making Baylor look bad.’ I was shocked,” Kondelis said. “I couldn’t believe that he was willing to say that on camera. It’s unbelievable. There’s a suggestion there without a doubt that Dotson’s attorneys had no interest in providing a defense for him — their only interest was saving face for Baylor, their alma mater.”

I have yet to watch the documentary but does it talk about the last bit of this article? The part about how the current DA is the same lawyer the brokered the plea deal for Dotson to protect Baylor?

Not sure either as I haven’t seen it yet. Hoping it comes out on Netflix soon as they’ve had Showtime shows on their recently.

Bears for Leadership Reform has “consistently refused to acknowledge” changes in university leadership, adoption of sexual violence response improvements and the board’s passage of governance reforms expanding regent voting rights, bringing outside perspective to the regent selection process, shaking up the board’s committees and more, according to the statement.

A task force of three nonregents and three regents opted not to recommend open board meetings, citing best practices of national private universities. That decision was also based on recommendations from the American Bar Association.

She seems qualified and hopefully, for the students, will do a good job and keep the athletics department in check. Doubt it though.

Linda Livingstone says a university president is ultimately responsible for complying with Title IX rules, which guard against sexual discrimination and violence.

She tells the Waco Tribune-Herald that she’s previously met with assault victims and that’s better informed her understanding of the issue.

Something new:

In November, the DOE fined Penn State University almost $2.4 million for Clery Act violations related to a child sexual abuse scandal involving former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Before November, the highest penalty levied by the DOE for a Clery violation was a $350,000 fine to Eastern Michigan University in 2008, Inside Higher Ed reported.

On Wednesday, Baylor responded to the newest lawsuit with a statement to the Waco Tribune-Herald. After pointing out that the “alleged incident” happened more than five years ago, it stated that the university has been in conversation with the victim’s legal counsel for months to reach an “amicable resolution.” It goes on to say the school is working on the 105 recommendations from Pepper Hamilton.

"Every time Baylor responds to anything, it’s always ‘but look at all the great stuff we are doing now,’ " the teacher said. “That doesn’t help me. I don’t sleep better. It doesn’t make the nightmares go away. I’ve never felt that the school cares.”

I know that we have a few esquires on our board. The following is the link for the small12 by laws. The other link is how the small12 percentage revenue were held from going to Baylor until they made internal changes. My question is if there is(are) any area where Baylor broke the by laws rules?

Baylor should be slapped with major sanctions. Possibly even the “death penalty.” Shelving the football program for a few years would send a needed message in college athletics that enabling criminal behavior for the sake of maintaining a program’s national ranking and economic power won’t be tolerated.

Money just making it go away. It’s the Baylor way.

Oddly doesn’t mention the staffer hired at UT… Does say that more is coming.

They’re ducking questions from Yahoo Sports – and who knows how many other media outlets – about hires of prominent former employees from the fetid swamp that was Baylor athletics during the Art Briles Era.
