OT: Baylor Scandal(s)

baylor’s title IX administrator resigned today.

Yep, she’s going to appear on CBS Good Morning tomorrow as well. Should be juicy.

Ex-BU Title IX coordinator rejects confidentiality agreement, quits

The school offered her a $1.5 million settlement, the source said, but Crawford balked at signing the confidentiality agreement for an additional $50,000, the source said.

Crawford’s attorney countered the school’s offer with a request for a total of $2 million, which school officials rejected, the source said.

Sigh…

I’ve read and kept on reading on how baylor is doing all this to “support” the “brave” victim’s and comply with their interpretation of title IX, thinking that something was missing. It just struck me that there is nothing in the press releases and statements from Baylor current or past about hold the perpetrators and their enablers accountable. And therein lies the problem… In my view.

Former Baylor Title IX Coordinator: “Baylor Set Me Up To Fail From The Beginning”

“I think Baylor set me up to fail from the beginning in November of 2014 when I came [to the school],” she said. “And I continued to work very hard, and the harder I worked, the more resistance I received from senior leadership. I increased reports by 700 percent over my time and it became clear that was not something the university wanted. In July, I made it clear in writing I had concerns and that the university was violating Title IX and my environment got worse.”

Baylor’s former Title IX coordinator speaks out

Rogge Dunn, Crawford’s attorney, said Texas law dictates that those mediation meetings are confidential and Baylor violated the law by leaking anything about those discussions.

“Guess what? In a desperate attempt to smear Patty, what they’ve done is violated Texas law,” Dunn said. 'Believe me, there’s nothing I’d rather tell you than what went on in that mediation because it’s in favor of Patty, but the law says you can’t do that, and we choose to follow the law, unlike Baylor University."

Discussion Thread: Former Baylor Title IX Coordinator Patty Crawford on CBS This Morning

IANAL (though I do like to read legal stuff). For reference, “ADR typically includes early neutral evaluation, negotiation, conciliation, mediation, and arbitration.” I believe this is the relevant law which her attorney is referencing. Texas ADR Statute Section 154.073 states:

Lack of transparency doing Baylor more harm than good

Once again, the university is staying mum and fueling doubts about the school’s commitment to reforms since the summary of the Pepper Hamilton report was released in May, which concluded that football coaches and staff interfered with investigations of sexual assault complaints against players.

This lack of transparency is causing more trouble for the university that, quite frankly, can’t handle much more.

Baylor defenders, conspiracy theorists being played by Art Briles

Because the assistant coach in the Tracy incident and everybody else are marching on his implied orders, emboldened by a martyrdom narrative he has been allowed to perpetuate in interviews like he did with ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi, when we heard a bunch of “I’m sorrys” unaccompanied by the whys and whats he was sorry for and leaving the whole interview in face-saving faux contrition.

I read the whole thing when it was up; she didn’t pull any punches and went off on the administration for not caring about Title IX issues even after the scandal broke.

Why Baylor is the College Football Playoff selection committee’s worst nightmare
Pat Forde

The committee undoubtedly will be charged with making a football-only decision. But these are human beings, and they might have a problem objectively slotting a Baylor program that has disgraced itself. Do any of them really want to answer for putting the Bears in the playoff?

BU recruit’s dismissal reveals rift between Title IX, administration

Crawford, in a federal civil rights complaint, alleges that was subjected to retaliatory actions by Ramsower, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

The complaint alleged Ramsowner took away her authority to handle Title IX complaints and accused her of “doing her job too well,” the source said.

Baylor version of player’s dismissal inaccurate, coach Jim Grobe says

Baylor acting head coach Jim Grobe has disputed the university’s account of how Jeremy Faulk was kicked off the football team in June, saying the defensive lineman had been suspended by the team but not dismissed after he was accused of sexual assault.

Grobe’s comments were met with widespread support from eight of the Bears’ current assistant coaches, as well as several staff members and a handful of former players, who nearly simultaneously tweeted a link to the story containing his comments on Monday night, along with the hashtag #TRUTHDONTLIE.

Fourth Title IX lawsuit filed against Baylor

A fourth Title IX lawsuit has been filed against Baylor University, this one by a female former student who accused former running back Devin Chafin of physically assaulting her three times.

Nice to see Ben the Worm writing about other schools:

Baylor sexual assault scandal led to shakeup, but no Title IX investigation

More than four months after the nation’s largest Southern Baptist university demoted its president and fired its star football coach in the wake of a sweeping sexual assault coverup by coaches and administrators, the federal agency tasked with enforcing laws against sexual violence on campus has yet to open an inquiry into the school.

They are now officially under investigation…
