June hits and the Booms start rolling like thunder.

Another kid that the staff targeted heavily. Nice.

A lot of these commits have the “under-the-radar” description. Coaches really are working to find these guys.

Now this is a great pick up! Let’s keep them coming.

I wonder where UH is according to 247 team rankings

50th.

4th among non P5 (BYU-29, SMU-41, Cincy-42)

Henry Thomas segment comes on around 25 minutes in - most of it is about Marshall, but some UH talk:

  • Says that Spencer Wells, the TE commit from Pearland, was calling him a lot, trying to get him to commit
  • Says that he feels comfortable with the coaches and that CMA has the Takeover still going

To be honest I think the H-town takeover left the building during Herman’s last year here. When we got in that mess with Herman last year along with the rejection of the Big 12, well, that pretty well deflated Cougar Nation’s balloon.
Now it is up to Applewhite to go back to Cougar grinding when it comes to recruiting, and to come up with sleepers who are flying under the radar.
We have won in the past with these kind of kids and we can in the future. Like we all say, it ain’t easy being a Cougar…but can certainly be exciting at times…

I do agree with Butch that recruiting is not as strong as it’s been the last two years. It’s going to be up to the coaches to develop these “sleepers diamond on the rough” prospects.

Last year the Coogs’ class had an average of 82 rating using the 247 composite. Currently this year’s class would have an average rating of 80.75. That isn’t too far off.
2016’s class was an aberration as we had Ed Oliver pulling up our average nearly single handedly plus Trendavian Dickson adding to it as well and he never even played a game with us.
Averages for the previous years:
2015 78.45
2014 80.87
2013 82.58
2012 80.23

That covers all the years after Keenum left. In hindsight we know just how good some of those guys were and our current class is right in line with those numbers. In this year’s case it sounds like a couple of our “two-star” guys are ones the coaches are really pushing to get. If this staff, with all their recruiting ties and experience, are going that hard for them I think that we can assume they are at least a little better than their current rating.
