BOOOOOM 2018 SG Nate Hinton from Charlotte, NC (Update: Signed)

Honestly, I don’t know how it’s working out now, although I think Chris Harris may be on a non-athletic scholarship or financial aid package. I think, due to him playing a year at San Jac, he no longer counted as a “recruited” player and they were allowed to offer him non scholarship aid. Bit of a loophole that the Coogs are taking advantage of, but it’s completely on the level.

Could be possible to do the same with the two UMass transfers since they are enrolling in JUCO this year. If so, we would technically have two scholarships available for 2018 even in our current state. (Edit: more than likely, we’re getting around scrutiny by claiming one will be on scholarship while the other is not. Similar to Harris due to the fact that he’s arriving with Corey Davis. My guess is that we actually have one more scholarship available for next year.)

And that’s where Dimon Carrigan comes into play. Nice!

I believe we currently have 13 on scholly with the graduate new comer on financial aid. We have 3 seniors departing, therefore we will have 3 schollys available.

Let’s see how many we sign first before we attempt financial gymnastics. And yes, there might be a causality or two. I don’t see Brady or Grant in that category.

You might be right as well. I know one of the players is on financial aid, I assumed it was Harris as no coach was seen with him off campus last year and the announcement was that he was “joining” the program, not that he had been signed. Zunna, on the other hand, was visited by Kellen Sampson in New York with pictures and I believe that means we had to have offered him a scholarship.

I agree with you on Brady and Grant; they’ll get playing time this year.

I pretty sure that it is Zunna that is on financial aid as he is a graduate student.

Yes. You’re right.

I could see Galen being pushed out of rotation with the addition of Jarreau as well. Unless they have Galen and Corey at the 1 and Jarreau at the 2 Hinton playing the 3

Its a nice problem to have I would rather us have too many players than not enough. It wasn’t long ago where we had 8 scholarship players and Sampson had to call time outs to rest guys instead of using them for strategy.

Hinton, who announced his commitment to the University of Houston earlier this month, said going to work with Patton every day taught him a couple lessons. One, he said with a smile, is that he found out that he doesn’t want to lay brick every day as a career. But Hinton also said the experience taught him that in order to succeed in basketball at the next level and potentially beyond, he needs to start taking a professional approach to the game right now.

“I want to turn basketball into my job. That’s one of the things I’ve done in the last couple months, turning it into a job … trying to have the mindset of a pro, doing a little of the extra work,” Hinton said.

I love this year’s team, but damnnn the talent on next year’s, plus the arrival of Fertitta Center, gave me chills. These two years can be similar to the 2 year run the football program had under, Judas.

We should be set up for a longer run with CKS here. With him not angling to leave, there should be a steady stream of top recruits coming in. Going to be a fun decade.
