BEAST Texas!

Jackson was part of an explosive Lufkin offense last season. He caught 52 passes for 1,017 yards and 10 scores from Texas State quarterback signee Kordell Rodgers and had to compete for touches with Trinity Valley Community College receiver signee Dhailon Phillips.

Helped him when he returned a kickoff 100 yards for a TD in the playoffs.

Sends the message that you better jump in now or you may not have a spot later.

Coogs up to 41st, only behind BYU (30th) among Non-P5 schools:

He is a little guy, probably 5-8 at best, with around 4.65 speed, but I think our coaches think he can be an inside slot player.
Hoping we can recruit some speedy kids that can spread the field…

Marquez Stevenson is that guy if he can ever get healthy. I think maybe Terry Mark or Jeremy Singleton could be that guy too.

We have not had great luck with our speedsters lately…Stevenson could be a stud if we can keep him healthy. Singleton could also be the answer…time will tell…I hated when we lost the Baylor transfer because he was the real deal. I had heard he was going to A&M but have not verified that…

Congrats to the Coogs! I’m an LHS Pack grad from '86

From The Lufkin Daily News:

Jackson said he chose Houston over offers from Arkansas State, Texas State and Sam Houston State.

“I started taking trips down there my sophomore year. Since then, it’s just felt like home,” Jackson said Wednesday before 7-on-7 practice. “I get a positive vibe every time I’m around there. The coaches have also shown a lot of love. Houston was the place I wanted to be.”

Jackson — a three-star recruit by 247sports and Scout — caught 52 passes for 1,030 yards with 10 touchdowns as a junior for the Panthers.

With his college decision behind him, Jackson, who moved to Lufkin from Alabama in the fifth grade, is ready to have a big senior season.

“It’s good to know where I’ll be going,” he said. “I can now focus on just playing.

“This is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a dream come true, really.”

On Saturday, Jackson helped the Lufkin 7-on-7 team clinch a berth in the state tournament in College Station later this month.

What is our recruiting at receivers above 6’.2"?

The 3 wideouts in this class are all under 6’0". Singleton from last year is also under 6’0".

Last WR we recruited that was at least 6’2" was Corbin 2 years ago and he’s exactly 6’2".

We did pick up the grad transfer from ASU, Jefferson, who is 6’4" and Dunbar is 6’3". That’s it for anyone that tall in the receiving corp.

Patrick edwards was 5’9" and tyron carrier was about 4 ft tall. I’d gladly have both back. Nothing against the new guys. Good memories.

Thank you very much. I appreciate having slot receivers combined with tall receivers. It usually gives a better option for the QB, run game and the overall offense. From a defensive point of view it makes it much harder to prepare for and cover.

Two Lufkin Panthers were named to the 10th annual East Texas Football Preseason Dream Team.
Wide receiver Malik Jackson, who is committed to the University of Houston, and defensive tackle Carl Williams, who has offers from Oklahoma, SMU, TCU and Tulsa, both made the team.
