An emphasis was placed in spring workouts on the unit being more physical. With brand-new corners last season, Applewhite said there was a trust issue that limited what the Cougars could do regarding playing man coverage. “We were very soft out there last year,” he said.

It’s hard to be physical when there is a 10 yard cushion before the ball is snapped (thanks to our DC). Here’s to hoping there is more pressed-man coverage.
From what Major said on the teleconference yesterday, it sounds like the coverage may have been mostly set by our DB coach last year. He basically said that the new coaches are bringing back the physicality and that D’Onofrio is adjusting his schemes accordingly. We’ll have to see, but it sounded good.
