Burke and Valencia Named Athletes of the Week

After helping the Cougars become only the sixth team in Penn Relays history to sweep the sprint relays, Burke earns men’s athlete of the week honors. The senior helped Houston to a trio of first-place finishes in the men’s 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, and 4x400-meter relay. Burke, alongside Amere Lattin, Jermaine Holt, and Obi Igbokwe now hold the fastest collegiate time of the season in the men’s 4x400-meter relay. Individually, Burke posted a time of 10.20 in the men’s 100-meter relay to take home first-place in the event.

Valencia concluded back-to-back weekends with top-two finishes in the men’s shot put, posting the best mark in the league this season in the event at 60-9 ¼ (18.52), for second-place.

Houston has now racked up nine weekly honors since the start of the outdoor slate. The award marks the first for Burke and Valencia during the outdoor season. The Cougars have taken home 20 total weekly honors in 2018-19.
