C/O '20 3B Will Pendergrass from Ft Bend RidgePoint commits to Houston (Update: Signed)

Pendergrass was all-district 20-6A first team as a sophomore. He’s Rusty Pendergrass’s son.

Rusty was an assistant with UH from 89-91, was HBU head coach from 92-97 and was a longtime scout of the Astros and other clubs. I actually grew up around Rusty as I went to camps when he was at UH and he was a frequent visitor of a batting cage that I frequented as a teenager. Great guy.

Pendergrass is also the starting QB for Ridge Point as a junior but he’s not a football prospect I don’t think. That shows you he’s a decent athlete though. UH has a Ridge Point senior DE who is committed, and last year’s QB for RP is at Louisiana Tech.

Catcher Will Pendergrass is 6-for-9 in the first two district games. Pendergrass belted three doubles in Tuesday night’s 14-1 win over Kempner, driving home three runs, and added an RBI triple against Austin.

“The motto basically means hard work will get the job done,” said Brett Sniffin, athletic director of the Fort Bend Independent School District. “That’s what he does. He works hard in practice and in the classroom and will sacrifice for the betterment of the team.”

Ridge Point has been the king of Fort Bend since its opening in 2010. The Panthers cruised to another district title a year ago but fell in the second round. Running the offense for coach Brett Sniffin is Will Pendergrass, who threw for over 1,600 yards in2018. Pendergrass is a winner having helped lead the Panthers to the state finals in baseball last June. He’s committed to the University of Houston and has a moxie about him. The go-to-guy with the ball in his hands is John Paul Richardson, the son of former Aggie and NFLQB Bucky Richardson. He can run, catch and return. Adrian Johnson is a DI linebacker, while Frank Osagiede joins him as the teeth of the defense. The Big Man on Campus is District Defensive MVP Bryson Stewart at defensive end. He destroys offensive game plans. Fort Bend Travis will push this team and compete for their coveted district title streak.

Bryson Stewart is a big kid with lots of upside. UH has not offered but I am thinking we will. Him and Cesar are good friends…as far as Pendergrass is an excellent athlete, but his future is probably UH baseball. The kid is solid, tough and does not shy away from action…and he is a good hitter…
