Wells, a junior and up from last season’s JV, is already a University of Houston commit. He showed why by striking out eight in four-and-a-third innings and surrendering just two singles, one of which was of the infield variety.

“This was my first time starting against Deer Park. It was nerve-wracking but I just wanted to get the job done and get the win for the Dogs. I was throwing a lot of change-ups to left-handed batters that was throwing them off, but mainly my fastball and curveball was very dominating today,” said Wells, who improved his mound record to 3-0.

Looks like Wells decommitted. Coaches had mentioned a decommit so I guess he’s the one.

Man… Just found out about this. Wow… Not shocked :astonished: @pray10 about losing Wells. He may get drafted in the top 5 rounds in the 2020 Mlb Draft. His stock has been soaring. So UH has lost two elite recruits in Richardson & Wells in 2020. The 2019-20 squad needs to win big and make it to Omaha. Losing these two players suxs.

Baseball commits change like the wind. I get a chuckle out of these 2023 kids committing on SM…it’s cool for them but it means nada until that NLI is actually signed on National Signing Day. Having just went through it with my son I’d advise anyone to hold off on committing until Sr year. Too many variables can and will happen ie: coaches getting fired; schools lose interest; grades; etc

And, even if they sign, it doesn’t mean they’ll ever play. Some get drafted, some decide to go JUCO at the last minute, and some get lost in a numbers game when rosters get pared down to 35 (I believe UH has 41 players right now, so 6 of those guys won’t be on the team in the spring).

Yes Sir, it gets real very quickly after HS ball. Lot of kids get hung up in the “I am a D1 player” when truthfully they might be by their JR year but unless a REAL stud, most will be picking splinters out their back side at first, IF, even get that far. All you got to do is go back through last few years of any school and see how few actually make it. Mines dealing with culture shock, 530am workouts, school, 3-4+ hour practices, study hall, lots of homework, etc…you can tell them but until they actually do it have no idea and many quit cause they figure out a) majority by far, I really don’t love baseball that much to do this much work or b) I have gone as far as i can others are just better than me…we all get told that sooner or later be it 18 or after a 20yr MLB career
