CDH in studio for Matt Thomas show

Best verbal exchange was at the very end of interview.MT said first year you will have a little Leeway, but 2nd year you don’t win 10 then with Khator you never know! CDH replied have you seen the “ buyout “. MT said then you plan on being here a long time. CDH said a long time!

Kind of scary he says that right after my dire Big12 expansion prediction where I said Cincy and West Virginia would be scooped up by the ACC.

A little confused on the buyout reply. Is there a stipulation where the UH buyout is low if he doesn’t win 10 games? Because I hope it wasn’t his point to say that the buyout is so high, he is sticking around a long time even if he is losing.

You heard his comment right about the buyout being stiff and would be hard to fire him if he wins less than 10 games.

The ability to have a coach that is experienced in running a program is going to be interesting to watch. I really like his approach to managing the roster. I get a sense he will build something similar to Sampson that is sustainable from year to year.

That’s his point–UH isn’t firing him even if year 2 isn’t stellar.

It’s so weird so many liking that comment then. His comment isn’t about loyalty. It’s about being stuck with him for better or worse unless someone is willing to pay him even more.

It’s very interesting that Tech, UT, TCU and Baylor all supposedly supported UH. But it’s also telling that UT let OU set the pace with a load of negatives that were mostly BS. It just seems UT could have put a lid on that had they wanted to do so.

OU’s whining about UH hurting their recruiting was mostly ignorant. During UH’s 20 years in the SWC I don’t think UT, A&M or Arkansas would concede that UH had a serious negative impact on any of their recruiting. Of course, that’s if data really matters. Ain’t no accounting for blind hysteria.

OU was looking at trying to “take over” the conference by adding the 2 Florida schools, BYU, and/or Cincy. Goal was to hopefully take power from UT and remove the UT voting block (hope was that Baylor could be influenced to go against Texas).

However, Texas basically put its foot down and told OU that UH would be added or no deal. It wasn’t due to UT really wanting UH, just that if expansion was going to happen, UT was going to maintain its voting block. OU said UH was a non-starter and therefore expansion ended up being a moot point.

We were just a pawn in the OU-UT chess game at the time.

Best thing i see is “there will be expansion, and geography isnt important when traveling away”…i think we will be in PAC or B1G when smoke clears…seems clear CDH sees us in a far away conference…
SICK of obsessive talk about big 12 …that is NOT where we want to go…that is NOT where we are going…
As to travel issues issues we are going to have, you can bet we WILL deal with it, as best as we are able…Given our G5 pauper status for 24 years, i think we will deal with it with a smile on our face, flush with money from P5 contracts we will be a part of…we are not going to let travel distance in spring sports dictate what conference we join…

I’ve heard several versions of the saga and that’s pretty much down the middle. It’s interesting that UT supporters don’t seem to get OU’s attitude towards UT. It’s definitely a love-hate relationship. OU cannot afford to lose its connection to all those Texas recruits. They saw what happened to Arkansas.

That’s true with major sports. But throw in all the other sports, including women’s teams and distance becomes a factor. Have 3 teams on the road at different sites and it can become a serious issue. But, you deal with it.

I did. Somehow it didn’t display until after my post. So we agree. We’ll deal with it. One option is a partial membership. Some of our sports form an alliance with other Texas schools. It’s been tried and seems to work.

Tillman started the idea about being stuck with us whether CDH wins or not at the news conference. He is just parroting the comment.

Soooooo, you were a closet Apple Boy fan😎

Sorry Pray, the OU-UT power struggle was real, as you pointed out, but ultimately the networks killed expansion so the quarrel between the two powers never really played out. Just pointing out that one fact.

I wish it would have played out, that would have been an interesting squabble…4 Texas schools + WVU vs OU, Ok St, KU, K st and Iowa St. No way the Texas schools would have let OU have the majority over the Texas (UT) interests. Probably would have ended with us plus another school (Cinci, BYU etc) to keep it even.

I know you are teasing but how did you go from me saying Dana needs to win 10 his second year regardless of buyout to me being satisfied with Apple not winning 10?

Thank you for sharing. THAT is what you want to hear. He could’ve said “we are getting better every day but we still need to improve.”

To read “a lot of improvement “and “home run hire”, this reassures a lot of things that we’ve already talked about. But we will leave those thing in the past and it’s time to move forward. We will see a much improved defense and at the very least a much more balanced team which means we should be in position to potentially win every game as long as everyone stays healthy.

At this time of the season I cannot care less about what he said about how the big 12 teams would have voted, anything about his WVU’s teams or what is buyout clause is.

What I want to know is about our 2019 team.
Biggest area of needs and strengths, our new comers etc.

I like that he called our DC hire a HR.
