A TX Div I program reached out to my OL nephew and suggested that he go to JUCO one year and then sign with their program. It’s not a grade issue. Why would they do that instead of giving him a “preferred walkon” status? He had a Div II offer.
The class of 2021 and probably 2022 will be negatively impacted by the extra year given to this year’s players. While roster limits are being relaxed the school still needs to fund the additional slots and many will elect not to do so.
Additionally the transfer portal has emerged as a new recruiting pool to fill in a school’s roster gaps. So schools have the choice of guys with 2+ years of college training and S&C vs a true FR and may be suggesting JUCO so they can pick him up next year after their roster clear a little more.
Lastly, expanded rosters can mean practice rep issues so they may be looking at their returning roster and seeing issues with numbers from practice/coaching capacity perspective.
The Harvey kid at Ridge Point is a monster but is very raw. He would be a great get for the Coogs.
Ridge Point will be loaded for at least a few years especially in the trenches.
One of their freshman DEs recently won the long jump at a varsity track meet.
And I guarantee you our track coaches know all about freshman Gordon who is already one of the top triple jumpers and is also a really good quarterback-defensive back prospect.
Defensive end Kalu is a Sophomore and recently picked up an offer from Baylor.
