Looking at Week 1 CFL stats and checking on our 3 alums up there:

SirVincent Rogers and Richie Leone - Ottawa: Ottawa was off the 1st week of the season (9 teams in the league so someone has to have a bye). Their 1st game is tonight at 6:30pm. Game should be on ESPN+.

Markeith Ambles - Calgary: Ambles is currently assigned to the practice roster and won’t be playing for now.

If you’re a young football player in Tyler, there’s no better person to learn how to avoid blockers from than Tyus Bowser of the Baltimore Ravens.

And if you’re a young receiver, who better to do route running and pass catching drills with than Fred Ross, Greg Ward and Justice Liggins.

All four of the former John Tyler Lions, who are now in the NFL, were working with youngsters at the first Tyus Bowser Youth Football Camp on Saturday at John Tyler High School.

I was having lunch with my wife at Salata in the Energy Corridor yesterday and spotted Kenneth Farrow there. Dude looks chiseled as ever. Did he get cut by the Chargers?

He did. Last word was that the Titans were looking at him.

Year two for Bowser could be a huge turning point. With a year of NFL experience under his belt, the game will slow down a lot, allowing Bowser to unleash his potential on the field. Hopefully, Bowser will take a similar path as fellow linebacker Matthew Judon. Judon showed promise with four sacks as a rookie in 2016. He doubled his sack total in his sophomore season (second best on the team), becoming a key member of Baltimore’s defense in 2017. Judon expressed hope that Bowser can take a similar step forward this year.

Bowser will continue to contribute to special teams in 2018, but his snaps should increase dramatically on defense. Terrell Suggs will turn 36 in October, and while still playing at a high level, his career is nearing the end. Down the stretch in 2017, Suggs was exhausted from playing the majority of snaps on defense. Baltimore would greatly benefit if Bowser can improve and help carry the workload from Suggs, Judon and Za’Darius Smith. I predict that Bowser will play an integral role on defense this season, possibly finishing with the second or third most sacks on the team.

One of the young defensive ends who will try to break through to earn a roster spot and perhaps even some playing time is Cameron Malveaux, who showed intriguing potential last season as a rookie free agent from the University of Houston. After beginning the season on the practice squad, Malveaux earned a promotion to the active roster, eventually appeared in four games and recorded his first NFL sack. Through it all, he earned praise from his coaches for his work in practice.

A former team captain at Houston, Mbu has been universally praised for his character and work ethic since entering the league. He already made friends with locker neighbor Tyler Lancaster, trading numbers with the fellow defensive lineman, an undrafted rookie from Northwestern.

Mbu is aware his position is one of the deepest on the roster with recently signed All-Pro Muhammad Wilkerson joining veterans Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry.

Matthew Adams Brings A Thumper To The Colts’ Defense

“It is just the way I was taught growing up,” Adams said, via 247sports.com. “My dad and older brothers were big on hitting. One point my dad always made was that it was not a tackle unless you put your face on them, so I try to put my face on every ball carrier.

“Big hits get the defense going and can cause turnovers,” he continued. “It is a high-risk, high-reward way to play and that is the player I am, but if the situation is where I need to make a for-sure tackle I’m still going to make that for-sure tackle.”
