D’eriq King Highlights/ 24/7-College football's 10 most versatile players

Nice job, pesik! I remember with your help, being optimistic based on our Oline being beat up but young and gaining a great deal of experience as last year went onward.

Play calling, imo made them and the RBs look worse than they should last year. We were simply too predictable most of the time. Banging our heads against the wall. Catalon hit brick walls because we were read far too often.

Regarding the running backs, it’s definitely going to be Williams, Car. After that it is going to be a fight between Walker, Justice, Carr, and Mitchell for playing time.

Offensive Line I am with Pesik. At the Spring game, the running backs were getting space to run. I believe we have the talent in this unit. Here are three reasons they will be better this year.

1.) They are another year older, stronger and experienced.
2.) Offensive Line coach. I think Clements is a great line coach.
3.) Splits. If you watched the Spring game and also ever paid close attention to the offensive line, you would have noticed that the splits were as much as a foot wider than last year. This forces the defensive linemen to commit to a gap. It allows the offensive linemen to then take the defensive linemen that direction and the running back getting the handoff can read the block and cut the other way. Herman’s offensive line style works when you have bulldozers for offensive linemen at a Ohio State. The State of Texas does not generate a ton of bulldozer linemen.

Wide splits also make an expressway for blitzing LBs and Safeties. Are we quick enough to pick them up?

Yes. Your linemen need to have quick feet. However, the wider splits force the defense to expose where they are coming from sooner. It is why you see the wide splits in an Air Raid offensive line as well. Your wide receivers are split wide as well. You are trying to put all the defense in one on one islands. If they blitz, you trap or throw quick screens or slants. Here is a good article with other links about Briles offense.
