I like this news.
Sean was a solid player for UH @ Y2K on some great teams.
(Raynor’s peak)

The one that sticks is Top 10/UH regional champs in 2000.
Pitching was great that year.Kyle Crowell, Shane Nance, & Duncan McAdoo, Bryan Harris, etc with a tough schedule.

Ignore that in his player stats it lists him as a coach.

We had Duncan McAdoo and Jarrod Bitter (among others) for a summer episode last year and it was really cool to re live that 2000 season as an adult. Well, at least until we re lived the Super Regionals :frowning:

So after all of the drama with Lance Berkman trying to get Wayne fired, and after Rice interviewed virtually every living alumnus of the baseball program, they end up hiring the Tennessee Tech coach.

Risky hire in the sense that the guy has never coached in TX at any level, but that he built a team as good as this year’s Tennessee Tech team (and it wasn’t the only good one he had at TTU) is a pretty damn strong endorsement. Hiring a guy who succeeded in a resource-deprived situation is a decent idea at Rice.

Solid hire; very impressed by what the Rice AD is doing over there. Bragga is a guy that’s worked his way up through every level and should succeed at Rice.

I don’t think it is that risky as baseball recruiting is not as influenced by HS coaches as football and there are plenty of opportunities to see kids play year round to evaluate them unlike football.

It’s definitely less of a factor than all of the positives in Bragga’s favor. I think it was an excellent hire by Rice, as much as you can judge any hire at this stage. Having a good relationship with the high school coaches and summer ball coaches is part of the package too. But kind of like you said, baseball is a lot less insular than football here.
