FEI- Fremeau Efficiency Index

Updated through 11/18 games( Chart at Bottom)

FEI is a college football rating system based on opponent-adjusted drive efficiency. Approximately 20,000 possessions are contested annually in FBS vs. FBS games. First-half clock-kills and end-of-game garbage drives and scores are filtered out. Defensive Efficiency (DE) is the value generated per drive a team’s opponent offenses adjusted for starting field position. DFEI is defensive efficiency adjusted for the strength of opponent offenses faced.

Houston ranked #25 prior to Navy game, this site updates mid week. Rating will move up I assume with Navy performance. Also ranked #23 by ESPN for Defensive Efficiency (71.0 grade out of 100…….#1 Clemson is graded 90.2) including Navy game. Highest Ranked AAC defense!!!

UH Raw Rank(DE) is # 39………its DFEI(adjusted for strength of opponent offenses faced is #25……so UH moves up 14 spots when their opponent offensive FEI is considered. We have faced the following Offenses and their OFEI (
offensive efficiency adjusted for the strength of opponent defenses faced )
#7 Arizona, #18 SMU, #23 Navy, #29 Memphis, #36 Texas Tech, #44 ECU, #49 USF, #51 Tulsa, #68 Tulane, #95 Temple, #120 Rice

Other AAC teams………….UCF at #9(before last weeks performance vs USF which will drop them significantly.) Their raw rank is #13….they drop 4 spots due to SOS opponent offenses. Ranked # 28 by ESPN….68.1 grade

#24 USF……….Raw Rank #8……….adjusted rank drops 16 spots…….weak SOS ……they will drop behind us when updated this week due to performance vs UCF. ESPN rank is # 36….grade 65.5

Good information. I just wonder what our DFEI ranked when we played teams that could pass. These numbers may be a little skewed, in that regard.

I like being ahead of Florida State - hope the Aggies like their new coach!

FEI does break down run/pass efficiency but not by game…only for season to date.
So…they break Pass def efficiency into two categories
Standard Downs(such as 1st & 10, 2 & 7 or less etc.) UH was #56
Passing Downs(2nd and 8 or more, 3rd & 5 or more) UH surprisingly #25

Only thing I can find to compare for Passing teams is QBR:

Tex Tech -Simonek 49.0 vs UH…70.7 season
Memp - Ferguson 71.7 vs UH…77.9 season…Ferg 97.1 vs SMU
USF - Flowers 47.5 vs UH…72.8 season…Flow 83.8 vs UCF
SMU - Hicks 53.7 vs UH…75.5 season…Hicks 75.7 vs Memp

updated ranking by football outsiders.com after Navy…UH #22
