2016 Roster lists him as 6’1- 300 lbs.
Built like a fire hydrant.

Always good to have depth and especially at that size.

Just got a news alert about this from theScore app on my phone.

Leaves us with 1-2 scholarships left.

Houston picking up a graduate transfer from the SEC: Texas A&M defensive lineman Reggie Chevis told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he will spend his final year of eligibility with the Cougars. Chevis arrived in 2013 as a 4-star linebacker but was later converted to defensive line. The 6-2, 295-pound Chevis played in all 13 games for the Aggies in 2016, recording 25 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. Chevis graduates this month and will be eligible to play at Houston immediately.

OUR DL. Could be the best unit we’ve ever fielded. This is huge.

Reminder that during our Cotton Bowl run (3 out of 4 years) in the late '70’s, UH had three Top 10 ranked teams (#4, #5, and #10) with some pretty terrific DL talent. Guys like Wilson Whitley, Red Oglesby, Hosea Taylor, Leonard Mitchell & Alvin Ruben come to mind. Most of these guys were drafted & played in the NFL.

And the 1988 team had Glenn Montgomery, Alfred Oglesby, and Craig Veasey who all played in the NFL. And they were backed up at linebacker by Reggie Burnett and Lamar Lathon. That was a stud defense.

For some perspective, during our very first 1976 SWC campaign, the UH defense gave up only 95 points in the 8 SWC games (~12 points/game) playing against four (4) Top 20 ranked SWC teams.

[#20 Texas scored 0; #9 ATM scored 10; #15 Arkansas scored 14; and #5 Tech scored 19.]

Damn!!! I hope so. Hopefully, Kyle Allen delivers. All eyes will be on him.

Great news all around. That will benefit the entire Team and Coaching staff.

Add Lee Canalito to that list of names. Without the bad knee, he may have been the Outland winner

So with 1 or 2 scholarships left. What is the coaching staff looking to add?

'Depth remains a concern, as the Cougars will likely make a push in the next couple months to add a wide receiver, offensive lineman and possibly defensive back through fifth-year transfers or junior college ranks. … "

I wonder what’s causing these transfers

Could be a Couple of reasons

  • Playing time
  • Coach conflicts

Aggies get guys because they want to play in the SEC, but some aren’t going to play because of others ahead of them. Moore was injured this spring and got passed on the depth chart.

Wonder if we have a shot at Moore; offered him out of high school and we could use a LB.

Chavis likes a massive LB in that spot to crush the FB & blocking TE. They must have plus sized & been straight with him about future playing time.
