Wichita State seems to be the argument against RPI being a valid metric. They’ve got a lot of wins against low 100+ RPI teams this year which is probably more luck than anything. They’re also good at winning weekday games where they’re 10-3 and have knocked off Top 30 RPI teams Okie State twice and OU. They didn’t play a team higher that RPI 108 on the weekend in OOC play and went 15-1 against that schedule.
Once they got into conference and actually faced good teams and those team’s top pitchers, they were exposed badly.

Leadoff single and he makes it to 2nd after being picked off, but a dropped ball allows him in safely. Walk and a sac bunt put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Hit by pitch loads the bases. Lockhart makes a great play to stop a grounder and get the batter at 1st. Run scores…Coogs lead 4-2
Cumbie Ks the last batter to escape any further damage

Back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Sac bunt moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Looney goes to the pen; Carter Henry on to pitch
Henry induces a shallow pop fly to hold the runners for out #2. He then gets a foul out to Lockhart to escape the jam.

Groundout to Hollis ends it.
COOGS WIN!!! 6-3
Nice businessman-like win for the Coogs over a pretty good team. Back at it again tomorrow at 6 pm for the last regular season game.
Bats have really woken up the 2nd half of the season. Bielo’s been a big part of that, but Padgett’s emergence after struggling early has been great to see. Even Lovelace has been getting it going lately. Team is really hitting its stride with the postseason on the horizon…could be a very tough out.
Is that dirt or all turf on that field?
Turf
Yeah I guess that speaks to my low expectations for them as much as anything. I was also surprised how much their fan base gets into baseball. Although everything Wichita is so geared around WSU I’m not too surprised.
And there’s something else to do in Wichita?
Wichita is struggling with a top 5 pick nearly all baseball mock drafts. Next year should be rough even with a coaching change.
I would make the HC change now.
"4. White Sox: Alec Bohm, 3B, Wichita State
Chicago has gone the college route with its first pick in each of the six previous seasons (Tim Anderson was a junior college guy, to be precise), and there’s no reason to think it’ll deviate from that philosophy. Bohm has serious power and controls the zone well, though some see a move to first base in his future. If Bohm is gone, Madrigal is in play, as is Swaggerty from the offensive side. College arms still on the board who could be considered are South Florida’s Shane McClanahan or Stetson’s Logan Gilbert."
