Gene, I used to be in the Taxi Squad and still have my pin. However, when I was in it we met at Sonny Look’s steak house. We then had meetings I think at the Marriott on the west loop, but that may have been one of the fund raising committees. Those things tend to run together these days.

Anyway, I used to love the Taxi Squad and Cougar Cager Club. But, things always seem to change, sometimes for the better and sometimes not.

I spent Christmas in Ruidoso a couple years ago. I should’ve gone to the casino to look for Gene.

I remember having some Taxi Squad meetings downtown at the Hyatt Regency which was convenient, because I worked two blocks away. This was maybe in the early 80’s, but I’m not sure.

I remember going to the TS meetings at the Hyatt. Good food. People started to bitch about the price, so one was held on campus at the Hilton.

Food was not as good. When Yeoman took questions, somebody in back asked why we didn’t try to intercept the ball more. Yeoman turned to Peacock and said, yeah Ronnie… why don’t we get more interceptions !!!

Then Yeoman said, “ we’ll, you have to expect those kinda questions when you serve meatloaf” !!

Classic Yeoman !!

And he always addressed the person asking the question as “Coach.”

So was I and I have my pin as well . I attended many meetings at the River Oaks. Someone gave the the servers UH ball caps and they were having as much fun as us! I remember CBY said that we stopped getting invited back to the RO because we started winning the SWC and it angered some of the people in Charge . LOL !

I go back to the time the TS met at the Houston Club downtown. We had maybe 50 people there. This is before we got into the SWC. CBY will show highlights from (as U recall) a movie camera.

When I was a kid I would go to Burr Davis’ house and watch those game films on a projector. I think he borrowed them from CBY.

Gene, my Mom and Dad are Pat and Art Barrett, and I am sure that you ran into my sister Ginny at a casino !!! It is such a small world, and we are all blessed to be Cougars. Dad graduated law school with CF, and CF and Dorothy were some of my parents very closest friends. CF and Dad were instrumental in growing the Taxi Squad into the great organization that it was. Dad brought the Taxi Squad to River Oaks, which they later outgrew. Jim on this Board represented us years ago, and is one of the finest attorneys you will ever know.
I have my degrees from UH (BBA 81; JD 87), which provided me with the best education ever…
I miss my parents dearly, but I kept their history of giving back to UH alive and well, giving early and often…
Go Coogs !!!
