HCA Gulf Coast Division hires exec to oversee partnership with new UH medical school

Dr. Jose Perez Jr. is the vice president of graduate medical education at HCA Gulf Coast Division, part of Nashville-based HCA Healthcare Inc. (NYSE: HCA), according to a press release. His first day was March 12.

Perez most recently worked at Houston Methodist Hospital as its vice chair of education and internal medicine residency director for the programs associated with Weill Cornell Medicine, per the release. He worked there for almost 11 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he spent about 15 years at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California, first as its internal medicine residency director and then as its director of medical education.

In addition to his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad de Monterrey in Mexico, Perez also holds a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, according to the release. He also is a member of or has held leadership roles at several U.S. and Texas physician-related associations, including the American College of Physicians, Texas chapter of the American College of Physicians and the Hispanic American Medical Association of Houston.
