With three sport programs scoring record highs and seven of 17 programs contributing to the final score, Houston outdistanced the rest of The American by triple digits as it finished 67th overall.

Men’s Track & Field pulled in two of the three record highs, scoring 85 points with a third-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and 72 points with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The program also swept The American Indoor and Outdoor Championships for the third consecutive year.
Men’s Basketball posted a record 50 points after claiming its first NCAA Tournament win since 1984, as it defeated San Diego State before losing on a heartbreaking buzzer beater to eventual NCAA runner-up Michigan. Finishing the year 27-8, the Cougars became only the sixth team in school history to enjoy 27+ wins in a single season.
Baseball added 50 points as it advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the 22nd time in program history and the fourth time in the past five years. The American’s regular-season champions, Houston ended the season ranked No. 25 in Baseball America’s Top 25.
Softball returned to the scoring column for the first time since 2013-14 with 37.5 points as it advanced to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, the program’s eighth NCAA postseason berth. The Cougars finished the year with a record of 37-22.
Having scored in all four years of its team’s existence, Women’s Golf added 31.5 points with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Austin Regional. The American’s champion for the second time in three years also saw Leonie Harm advance as an individual to the NCAA Championships, the start to a successful summer that saw the German win the British Open Amateur Championship on Saturday and qualify for the British Open.
Football rounded out the scoring with 25 points as the program earned its fifth consecutive bowl game appearance with a berth in the Hawaii Bowl. The five-year bowl streak marks the 20th-longest active streak in the nation and the second-longest in The American behind the six of Navy.
