Houston softball returns with loaded lineup

Senior Brooke Vannoy started all 59 games at catcher last season and stepped into the role of calling games when pitching coach Megan Gibson-Loftin was on maternity leave. With added depth at the position, Vesely said there will be chances to give Vannoy a break and keep her fresh for late in the season.

“When Savannah became an All-American I told her, That’s on you, too. Good job, because you called those games and you helped her be better,’” Vesely said.

Picked to finish third in the AAC preseason poll behind South Florida and Wichita State, the Cougars have also received national attention with appearances in three different polls.

“It’s going to be exciting to see how we respond,” Vesely said. “We have traditionally been the underdog, and we love that role.”
