Houston vs. Memphis Game 2 (W 3-0)

Bottom 8th
New pitcher for Memphis
Leadoff single by Lockhart and another double by Triolo put runners on 2nd/3rd with no outs. Two straight squeezes fail and result in runners in 1st/2nd with 2 outs. And, Coogs get nothing.

T9…UH leads 3-0

That was some bad situational base running by the Coogs. Two runners at third thrown out and don’t score all without a ball leaving the infield.

I’d chalk it up to bad bunts. First one was pushed too hard at the 1st baseman and he was able to get the guy at the plate. Second bunt was awful, runner recognized it and tried to get back to 3rd, but didn’t have a chance.

Coogs have been awful trying to implement squeeze bunts this year. Not sure that they’ve actually succeeded as of yet.

Fletcher sets them down in order to end the game

COOGS WIN!!! 3-0

Fletcher was nails as he only gave up 4 hits and struck out 9 while walking zero. Impressive pitching from the Top 2 Coog pitchers to open the series. Let’s hope Randel can continue it tomorrow.

Junior starter Aaron Fletcher was stellar in his sixth start of 2018. He tossed a career-long 9.0 innings en route to his first career complete game.

The southpaw fanned a career-high nine, surpassing his previous high of six, which has happened twice, last coming vs. Mississippi State. Fletcher only allowed four hits and did not surrender a walk to move to 4-0 on the year and lower his ERA to a program-best 0.95.

Fletcher and Friday starter Trey Cumbie went back-to-back with complete game shutouts for the Cougars to open American Athletic Conference play.
