It's time to get your butt in gear (Fertitta Center)

My group bought four season tickets last week. 25 straight years of season tickets for me.

I didn’t expect the false ceiling to look so low. Should be a definite boost in crowd noise.

It’s real… intimidate… Should look nice on Tv

Bought two tickets today. Still a lot of seats available. I hope the athletic department did not overestimate the demand for tickets with the expectation that due to a new arena the demand will be enough for a big ticket hike. I think tacking on $100 commitment per seat to the cheapest seat price of $250 is a mistake. They are trying to treat basketball ticketing now like football which is a a misguided approach. My theory has always been they should keep the prices really reasonable to fill the area first before raising prices. The attendance has been abysmal for a long time and expecting large growth due to a new arena could lead to issues. I hope UH does not have egg on their face by having to lower the prices at the end of the season due to bad estimating.

While I understand your position, looks to me that about 1/2 the seats are are priced at $125 per season ticket with a $50 or less annual commitment.

To me, theses are reasonable.

As to whether they have made a mistake is another issue.

Students are free and have been for years, with pitiful attendance on their part. Pricing is not the issue.

Note, it might be regarding the over the top lounge chairs :sunglasses:

The student attendance has been bad but alumni have not shown up regularly either. I think they should have kept the Cougar Pride commitment to just the premium seats. My season tickets were $200 last season and this season with the stupid processing fee is $380. A bulk of the increase is from the Cougar Pride forced donation. I just think the commitment is a real greedy way for UH to boost donation numbers that are little fudged. It is not a donation if it is forced into with a purchase. I love supporting athletics but let people donate on their own.

Those donation numbers play into some important big-picture objectives. I understand the heartburn, but I think getting those numbers up is a worthwhile trade-off.

Yeah. There are plenty of seats available for $175, which for a program of the caliber we appear to be in a renovated arena is a flat out steal. While it would be nice to charge $10 for every seat and sell the place out and that plays well for the guys who like to go argue on realignment boards, the school needs the revenue as well.

There were some miscalculations. The price/row dropoffs for Tier 1/Tier 2 were a bit too steep. The barcaloungers (which I personally think look cool but were way out of my budget for this) appear to have been a pretty significant miscalculation.

I posted this a while ago, but my big beef with the way this was handled was that there was no real incentive to get a commitment in early. I could be wrong, but I think if the priority factors would have been Fertitta Center commitments in $500 increments, then date of commitment after that, CP could have really created a ticking clock and pressure to get a commitment in, which creates momentum. But maybe it wouldn’t have made a difference.

My discontent was with the price per seat and then $50 for Cougar Pride tacked on. I just think based on the attendance issues for basketball maybe they should have left the CP commitment for premium seats. If they want CP money then don’t separate the two. I could see this as a negative effect physiologically in consumer purchasing by separating the two costs. When buying a car the dealer doesn’t say here is the price for the car body but you will need to pay this additional expense for the tires.

Actually I have seen car dealers actually try to charge for the paint sealer… which is standard :sunglasses:

Right. Car dealers are notorious for misleading with a low price and tacking fees for stuff that should seem standard on to that price. I went to buy a car once and when I got to the dealership the advertised price was supposedly the “cash” price (which was not in the advertisement), but the list price for the car if you were financing was higher. This is obviously ludicrous because the dealership really wants you to finance a car through their financing department and doesn’t want you to pay cash. It was just a scam because most folks aren’t going to be able to or want to pay for a car with all cash.

If anything I think the lower “seat” price with the CP donation tacked on would be more likely to get someone to buy. They initially see the $125 number and think it’s more affordable and already kind of commit to it. Ticketmaster is a good example of how this works. Plus the “donation” could make you feel more altruistic.

In any event, I’d be surprised if the number of people who would or would not buy seats at $125 plus a $50 donation vs. paying $175 without a donation is much different. Maybe a few one way or the other.
