JUCO DT Olivier Charles-Pierre commits to Houston

DT Olivier Charles-Pierre commits. Originally from Canada, he’s spent the past two years at New Mexico Military Institute. He was committed to Arkansas State, but has strong ties to our new defensive coaches who view him as a project. Also had offers from New Mexico State, Delaware State, and Eastern Michigan.

Big kid, 6-2 345 pounds that can be a space-eater. Played in 9 games this year, made 30 tackles, and 5.5 TFL.

Awesome! Do you think more kids will commit from here until signing day or will signing day be like a huge spectacle for fans not knowing who the staff has signed?

Probably both.

Possible this kid is a Preferred Walk-on. Considering there has been nothing on social media regarding a recruiting commitment…

If you look at the Rivals link, it shows he was offered by UH, so he is not a walk-on if that is correct. We need someone to clog the middle and he certainly has the mass.

So welcome aboard young man!

Watching his film, he’s definitely a project player. He’d have to red shirt and gain some strength before he’s ready to play. Doesn’t explode off the line and doesn’t clog up the line either. Despite his size, it doesn’t look like he needs to be double or triple teamed.

Here’s an article suggesting we got a good one:

Trading one Oliver for another, jk. Sounds like they are high on him but I think what is more important is that our new defensive staff seems to have a track record of developing talent. As we all know that has been a foreign concept for us defensively the last couple of years. So I’m good with whatever they think.

But can he make a beautiful camembert?

We don’t sign JUCO guys to redshirt at a position of need. If so, we need new coaches.

I think that him being from Quebec means he probably has not played a lot of football and probably has not had a serious S&C program. Both mean he can get better in our program. I am cool with him being a space eater and letting the other guys make the plays.

Quite a career, playing in Canada and Mexico before finally coming to the US to play at UH.

BUT what kind of name is that? That ain’t no football name! I assume he goes by Bubba or Billy Bob or something less French.

I’m pretty sure you’re right. Social media may not be up to speed with the new coaches yet.

Ha! Terrible Timmy. lol

Going to assume this was for Pierre-Jones

I can remember us having some success with Canadian players back in the Helton era: Scott Regimbald, Adriano Belli, Derrick Boxhill.

I think Adriano Belli opened a restaurant in Canada. Not sure, I might be thinking of someone else.
