University of Houston civil and environmental engineering professor Debora Rodrigues uses nanotechnology to develop an energy-efficient water filter that can weed out metals and radioactive materials from drinking sources. Rodrigues’ filters, which take the shape of a thin film and polymer beads, require little energy use and are inexpensive, built with readily available materials.
