Recap:

  • Team was excited, coaches had their guys ready to go, team played hard.
  • Kyle Allen was more comfortable, developed more timing, receivers caught the ball well.
  • Calls Shimonek a very good player. Tells a story about how he was recruited up to Iowa, but wanted to play earlier so he transferred to Tech. Isn’t Greg Ward with his mobility, but he can extend plays if need be.
  • Tech is not a finesse team as many think. Thinks it’s cliche because they score so many points.
  • This week is the biggest challenge so far and we’ll find out a lot about the team and the coaches. You have to be prepared for the whole game, 3-4 hours, because they can score quickly. Always respect your opponent and know what they are capable of.
  • Difference from Game 1 to Game 2 was effort. In Game 1, there was hesitancy. In Game 2, things were a lot more fluid. Rice’s defense threw some complicated looks at us, but the effort and the preparation allowed them to get through it. Also happy that the penalties were way down.
  • Constantly learning about how to communicate staff and players. Yesterday, had to move over to the Texans bubble due to lightning. Have to be open minded and flexible.
  • Advantage of playing at 11 is getting up and get going right when you wake up instead of having a bunch of meetings all day. Weather is an advantage as team is acclimated.
  • No change to prep because of the early game. Won’t have the number of walkthroughs that they’d have if there was a PM game.
  • Great opportunity and great challenge this week.
