Houston senior sprinter Kahmari Montgomery earned The American Athletic Conference’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, the league announced Tuesday.

A 400-meter dash specialist, Montgomery stepped down in the 200-meter dash to work on his speed Saturday at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, and he did just that.
_ _
Montgomery raced one lap around the track in a time of 20.63, the second-fastest time in Houston history to win the event. The time is the fastest in The American this season and is No. 4 nationally.

The Plainfield, Ill., native’s win helped the Houston men, who rose to No. 4 in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, defeat two other top-10 teams in No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 8 Texas.

Montgomery’s honor is Houston’s eighth in the first five weeks of the season.
