Ol recruits

(R. Gene Tanner) #1

BACK A FEW YEARS THE NORTH EAST SCHOOL RAN THE THREE YARDS
AND A CLOUD OF DUST. THATS BECAUSE THEY HAD THESE BIG CORN
FED LINEMEN. IT SEEMED THEY JUST GREW BIGGER UP THERE. LOTS
OF MOMMIES WERE BIG THICK TYPE LADIES. THOSE TYPE OF KID JUST
GREW INTO BIG BOYS.
IT WAS VERY HARD FOR UH TO RECRUIT THIS TYPE OF PLAYER. WITH
UT & A&M GETTING THE BEST ONES. SO THE VEAR WAS JUST THE RIGHT
OFFENCE FOR US. LINEMEN DID NOT HAVE TO KNOCK THE DL OFF THE
LINE BUT JUST BRUSH BLOCK AS THE OF WAS SO FAST AT HITTING THE
LINE OF SCHRIMAGE. COACH YEOMAN TOLD ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS
THAT WE HAD A VERY HARD TIME RECRUITIN THIS TYPE OF PLAYER. THATS
WHY TOM WILSON WAS SO IMPORTANT TO UH . HE WOULD BUILD THESE
KIDS UP WITH HIS WEIGHT PROGRAM. OF COURSE TOM WAS MEANER
THAN A JUNK YARD DOG. BUT THE PLAYERS KNEW HE LOVED THEM AS
LONG AS THEY DID THERE BEST. OF COURSE DON TODD WAS UH BEST
RECRUITER. HE WAS THE BEST WE EVER HAD. USELY AT LEAST HALF OF
THE STARTERS WERE RECRITED BY COACH TODD.
GREAT MEMORIES FOR THIS OLD COOG. GO COOGS
