The Tulsa World reports that Haith will get a two-year extension tacked on to his remaining contract year. But with the athletic department battling a major deficit, the deal calls for a pay cut from his reported $1.6 million salary – which was more than double what any previous Hurricane basketball coach made.
The World reported that Haith earlier returned more than $300,000 to the department to help with its financial crunch.
Tulsa is in the midst of a major fundraising push. The school is struggling to keep pace financially in the American Athletic Conference, which features big-budget programs like Houston and Cincinnati.
