This definitely climbs to the top of the mountain when it comes to happiest Houston sports memories. The Peach Bowl win is a close second.
Deshaun Watson tore his ACL
Donāt, he had an insurance policy to cover it. (or most of it)
The Sports Gods just donāt want Houston fans to stay happyā¦
As a teenager, I attended a few games when they were the Colt .45s. In one game, I witnessed the .45s beat the Dodgers and Sandy Foufax. Also I was able to attend the opening night of the AstroDome when the Astros played and beat the New York Yankees and Mickey Mantle in the first exhibition game in 1965. Been a fan since the beginning of the Houston baseball franchiseā¦56 years. Still having a problem wrapping my head around the Houston Astros winning the 2017 World Series. Must still be in shock.
I moved to Chicago after the Army and my first year there went to Wrigley and saw sandy Koufax pitch. Even the Cubs were laughing when he struck them out. I kept going back and endured the punishment. Then I moved back to Texas and became an Astros fan. Thought Iād never see the Cubs win the World series, and now this, Astros are World series champs. Is the sky falling? Did somebody make a pact with the devil?
Donāt, Iām sure he has this covered one way or another.
Iām sure he had an insurance policy
GooseCreekCoog, sad U missed the Houston Buffs playing in Buff Stadium. Home plate is still there, I assume, in the old Fingers Furniture Showroom, now closed. My grandfather, who played in the Cubs organization, was attending a game in which one of the first basemen missed two throws to first. After the second incident, he purchased a complete bucket of beer, emptied it on the stairway, proceeded to carry it down to the first baseman and told him something like āif you canāt catch with the mitt, try using thisā. Of course, my grandfather was escorted out of the park, but it does make an interesting story . . . . .
As I understand, he not only had an insurance policy, he also laid down a fat bet on the Astros.
Houston NRG will host CFP in 2024. May our Coogs win it all at home.
Actually, I did attend one Houston Buffs game, but was only about 6 years old. Unfortunately, I suffered an asthma attack and had to be carried out of the game by my uncle. My one and only memory of Houston Buffs baseball.
