Rockets sign Rob Gray (Update: Now with Pacers G-League team)

He keeps this up, he will be brought up for at least some bench scoring.

How does it work with the G league? Is it like NFL practice squads where any team can claim a practice squad guy but the franchise he’s with can stop it if they put him on their active roster if they really want to hold on to him? (that would be nice)

Like CKS it’s no always about how many points you score. That said I’m sure he will get his chance at next level in due time.

Since he’s not on a 2-way contract or assigned to the club by the parent team, he’s basically a free agent that plays for Fort Wayne. Indiana actually has no tie to him at this point; he just plays for their developmental team.

As far as the other posts about Gray getting a chance; everyone knows he can score…question is his defense. Rob’s still near the bottom in most defensive rating stats in the entire league. Not too big a deal as defense at the next level is one of the hardest things to acclimate yourself too.

I’d keep an eye on the Rockets going forward in regards to Gray. They’ve struck out on a number of buy-out candidates and it’s likely that they convert House at some point. If so, there may be a possibility of them bringing back Gray on a 2-way deal.

If nothing else, he’s probably earned himself a summer camp invite with someone next season.

Rob has signed in France Pro A for Bourg. They are currently tied for 7th with two other teams (8 playoff spots) with 9 games to go. They played today, but he either is not there or cleared yet. Next game is Tuesday.
