Rockets sign Rob Gray (Update: Now with Pacers G-League team)

I agree. Rob certainly has talent, but he doesn’t have great handles and plays out of control a lot. He has quite a bit of refining to do before he’s ready for the NBA, but I do think he can get there.

“That (hunger) has always has been there. I’m a junior college guy. It’s just natural in my makeup, and I’m just looking forward to competing here,” said Gray, 24, a 6-foot-4 point guard.

Gray didn’t play in the Mad Ants’ season-opening 112-101 loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Nov. 2, and playing time may be sparse at today’s 7 p.m. home opener at Memorial Coliseum against the Erie BayHawks because the Indiana Pacers have sent down guard Edmond Sumner and forward Alize Johnson, but Gray is a player the Mad Ants like.

“One of the things that Rob can do is really score the basketball,” Mad Ants coach Steve Gansey said. “College basketball fans really saw that in the (NCAA) Tournament. I need to let Rob kind of go and play his game. Being a scoring point guard, obviously, we’ve had those in the past here in a Mad Ants uniform (with Ron Howard and Walt Lemon Jr.), and I’ve just got to let him go. At the end, especially in the NBA game, you need somebody who can break down a guy for you and get a bucket, and that’s exactly what Rob can do.”

Hey! Rob grew 3 inches !

Gray got in to his first game as a professional and scored 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 20 minutes off the bench. Fort Wayne won the game 116-111.

Maybe they are adding in the man bun.

Not to put downer on it but his team was getting pounded by 20+ pts in 2nd hlf….lot garbage points. No doubt he can score the ball, just needs to keep improving in all phases. Look at Corey Brewer, man can’t shoot worth a lick n he survived like 10 yrs now bec he does many other things on court very well !

Rob can definitely score, but is struggling on the defensive side of the ball so far this season (ranks 403rd out of 438 players in Defensive Rating). Not a huge deal right now as defense at the next level is the hardest thing to learn so hopefully Rob can get better.

I kind of wonder if Rob should make a go at playing overseas. If he doesn’t get the call-up to the NBA, he’s wasting mileage on his body when he could be making much more money in an overseas league.

Really depends on his NBA prospects. If he’s still got a good shot at the NBA, he should stay over here as it’s easier to get called up from the G League. However, if he can’t get a look in training camp next year, or the year after, it may be time to head overseas.

How is this guy not on an NBA roster yet? He’s killing that league.
