Softball Posts Top-15 GPA in the Nation

The University of Houston Softball program posted the 14th highest GPA in the nation and was honored as an Easton/NFCA All-Academic Team with a 3.534 cumulative mark for the 2016-17 academic year, announced by the NFCA.

The Cougars’ collective GPA also led the American Athletic Conference.

“We pride our program for being successful on the field, but also in the classroom,” Head Coach Kristin Vesely said. “Our players are dedicated in their studies, and we are elated to see their hard work recognized nationally.”

Cougars Jaylin Baldridge, Presley Bell, Kaylin Crumpton, Savannah Heebner, Rachel Hill, Elise LeBeouf, Trystan Melancon, Shelby Miller, Kelli Montgomery, Sarah Queen, De’Zha Scott, Breelyn Thames, Maya Thomas, Brooke Vannoy and Hannah Wolfe were recognized for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Houston’s 15 player honors tied for the fifth most among NCAA Division I programs and leads the American Athletic Conference as well as all programs in the State of Texas.
