The Cougars waste no time putting their talented roster amongst the best in the nation as No. 13/15 Kentucky and No. 22/21 Oklahoma State both make their way to Houston this weekend. Illinois and Sam Houston State rounds out the competition that Houston will face to open the season.

Very solid, experienced team. Plus, they do such a great job representing our University on and off the field. Need to make it out to more games this year.
Will be interesting to see how deep our pitching is this year. Seems like the Coogs struggle most seasons in finding that third starter. It is nice to have that third starter that can be relief when needed. A softball team will have a very high ceiling if can get one dominant stater and two proficient ones. The teams that do usually find themselves in the World Series. We came so close in 2010 but both of our dominant starters got injured during tournament time.
The Cougars wrap up their opening weekend on Sunday with a matchup against Sam Houston State at Cougar Softball Stadium. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be streamed online at uhcougars.com.
