The University of Houston Law Center ranked No. 5 among 116 law schools in the ratio of student debt to pay out after graduation, according to a survey of the 2016-2017 school year conducted by Student Loan Hero.

With the 2016-2017 annual in-state tuition of $30,401, the average Law Center student graduates with $97,246 in student loan debt, $14,500 less than the national average of $111,752.

After graduation, Law Center alumni earn an average starting salary of $102,153, $28,000 more than the national average. The survey also found more than one-third of UH Law Center students graduate with no student loans at all.

“This ranking confirms that the University of Houston Law Center is an outstanding law school providing students with excellent value,” Dean Leonard M. Baynes said.

The Law Center was the highest-ranked law school in Texas.
