I was looking at our roster and at the 5-6, 200 lb running back from Waco and he made me think of Spoon. I have only seen clips of him, but he reminds me of Spoon a little, but even more of Charley Tolar, the fullback on the first Oilers team back in 1960 and played thru 1966. At 5-6 and 200 LBs they called him the human bowling ball. The amazing thing about Tolar was that in 7 years and over 900 carries, he never fumbled – not even once, and I’m not talking about fumbles lost, I’m talking no fumbles period.

I like this SWC Roundup guy he’s spot on with our QB analysis.

Red, think of Robert Newhouse when looking at the kid from Waco…that’s what I saw in the films…

I just looked up Tolar on NFL.com. He should be in the HoF for ball security.

Carries: 907
Receptions: 175
Kick Returns: 18
Punt Returns: 5

Never a fumble. That is amazing.

Newhouse was before my time at UH. He played mostly while I was in the Navy and then while I was working in Baton Rouge and going to LSU. I only got to see him when the Cowboys were on TV which wasn’t much. From everything I have heard, he was one of our all time best RBs.

I do remember Albert, John, and Michael Newhouse though.

Watching “Gator Newhouse” was a treat. Followed him through his pro career.

Earl Campbell had Robert Newhouse thighs!

Seriously I don’t know how they compare. Newhouse was also known to hit a brick wall, shatter it and spin off.

I remember Newhouse in the dorm, his thighs were as big as my waist (at that time).

He’s generous in saying our defense was mediocre under D’Onofrio. Maybe so in 2017 but last year was an abomination. Yeah, we had injuries but, like the author points out, there was no creativity to try to compensate for the lost talent.

Hell is there anything else?

Another scenario to watch for is whether Houston continues its trend of losing a game they have no business losing. The 2015 loss to UConn in Storrs, the 2016 upset of an undefeated and 6th ranked Houston by Navy, the 28-point loss to a one-win Tulsa in 2017, and losing their last two games at SMU all come to mind, begrudgingly for Cougar fans.

Stopping this trend is important.

Can never remember a time when that wasn’t the case with my Coogs. Even the great Bill Yeoman authored games that left you scratching your head. He won a few though.

I know it’s a dirty phrase but this has always been definition one of “Coog it” to me.

Just the history of WTF losses is crazy.
