Swimming to Compete at TYR Pro Series

The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program will send a group of swimmers to the TYR Pro Swim Series at Mesa April 12-15 at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz.

Houston is fresh off of its second consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship title and first appearance at the NCAA Championships under Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka. Several Cougars competed at the TYR Pro Series Austin earlier this season, posting three top-15 finishes and seven top-40 finishes.

The event will feature athletes from all over the world and will be conducted in Long Course Meters. Prelims will be held at 9 a.m. each day, followed by finals at 5 p.m. on Thursday and 4:40 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program turned in a strong performance on the opening day of action at the TYR Pro Swim Series Mesa at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz.

Eleanna Koutsouveli led the charge with a pair of top-15 performances in the prelims of the 400 IM and the 200 Backstroke. The junior finished sixth-overall with a time of 5:01.38 in the prelims of the 400 IM and followed that up with an 11th-place finish in the prelims of the 200 Backstroke. Koutsouveli advanced to the finals in in the 200 Backstroke where she won the B-Final with a time of 2:17.43.

Angeliki Mavrantza and Peyton Kondis advanced to the finals of the 200 Breaststroke after finishing milliseconds apart in the prelims for sixth and seventh-place respectively. The duo advanced to the A-Final in the event where Mavrantza finished sixth, touching the wall at 2:32.62. Kondis finished a couple seconds later at 2:36.24 and in eighth-place.

Laura Laderoute turned in a pair of top-40 performances after finishing 21st in the prelims of the 200 Backstroke (2:21.72) and 40th in the 100 Butterfly (1:04.71).

Hannah Middleton and Isabel Tank competed in the 100 Butterfly where Tank turned in a 47th- -place finish in the prelims with a time of 1:05.42, followed by Middleton in 63rd-place with a time of 1:07.20.

The University of Houston Swimming & Diving had a strong outing on the second day of action at the TYR Pro Swim Series at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz.

Laura Laderoute got things started for the Cougars, finishing 17th in the prelims of the 100 Backstroke after touching the wall at 1:04.77. The sophomore went onto finish sixth in the B-Final of the event with a time of 1:04.94. Eleanna Koutsouveli followed up Laderoute, finishing in 21st place with a time of 1:05.41 in the prelims of the 100 Backstroke.

Koutsouveli and Laderoute also competed in the 200 Individual Medley where Koutsouveli finished 10th overall at 2:22.06 and Laderoute closed out the race in 29th-place with a time of 2:25.82. Koutsouveli won the B-Final in the event with a time of 2:19.34.

For the second time during the meet, Peyton Kondis and Angeliki Mavrantza finish neck-and-neck. Kondis turned in a sixth-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke touching the wall at 1:10.89 and was followed by Mavrantza in seventh with a time of 1:11.28. The duo moved on to finals where Kondis finished sixth in the A-Final with a time of 1:10.33 and was followed by Mavrantza in eight-place, clocking in at 1:11.52

Isabel Tank appeared in two events during the day, finishing 19th in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:24.08 and 59th in the 200 IM at 2:32.51.

Hannah Middleton notched a 48th-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing in 1:18.19, closing out the day with a 59th-place finish in the 100 Free at 1:00.75.

The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program’s third day at the TYR Pro Series in Mesa was highlighted by a pair of top-four performances from sophomore Peyton Kondis.

Kondis started the day off with a third-place finish in the prelims of the 50 Breaststroke with a time of 31.81 to advance to finals. Angeliki Mavrantza touched the wall at 33.54 for a 11th-place finish and Hannah Middleton finished at 35.10 for a 38th-place finish in the event. In the evening session, Kondis earned her highest finish thus far, finishing the race at 31.82 and fourth overall.

Earlier in the day Laura Laderoute finished 11th in the 50 Backstroke, touching the wall at 29.69, followed by Eleanna Koutsouveli in 18th place at 29.63.

Isabel Tank turned in a 50th-place finish in the 50 Butterfly with a time of 29.95 and a 62nd-place finish in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 27.73.
