Tennis Faces Boston College (L 5-2) and UConn (W 7-0)

ABOUT THE EAGLES

Boston College welcomes Houston on Friday with a 11-7 record, falling to Georgia State in their last match, 2-5. Sophomore Yufei Long, ranked #67 in the nation, leads the team at Flight 1 in both doubles and singles play.

ABOUT THE HUSKIES

UConn hosts the Cougars with a 4-8 record this season, defeating Georgia Southern in their last match, 4-3. The Huskies are lead by senior Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph at Flight 1 in singles.

The Houston Women’s Tennis team suffered the first loss in four weeks on the road against the Eagles, 5-2. The Cougars will face UConn at 12 p.m. at the UConn Tennis Facility.

Houston had a hot start in doubles, starting on Court 3 where Phonexay Chitdara and Jovana Vukovic secured the first match of the day, 6-2. On the neighboring court, Ndindi Ndunda and Sophie Gerits battled to snatch the first point at Flight 2, 7-5.

Rolling into singles, the Eagles were able to get a head start at Court 2, where Mimi Kendall-Wolseley dropped the first match against Jackie Urbinati, 6-1, 6-2. Ndunda battled a long three-set match against Kylie Wilcox at Flight 1 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Doubles partner Gerits faced Natasha Irani in a tight matchup, dropping the last set 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Vukovic was also close to finish, but eventually lost against Enele Tsokilauri at Court 3.

The lone singles win came from freshman Stephanie Belovukovic, who defeated Loren Haukova at Flight 6, 8-6. The Australian has yet to drop a match since mid-February.

The Houston Women’s Tennis team traveled to face conference foe UConn, defeating the huskies, 7-0.

In doubles, Ndindi Ndunda and Sophie Gerits secured the first match of the day at Flight 2, 6-0. Shortly afte, Mimi Kendall-Woseleyand Elena Tairyan closed out their match at Court 1, giving Houston an early lead.

Going into singles, the Cougars dominated from top to bottom of the lineup. Kendall-Woseley had a long match, eventually beating Julieanne Bou in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Freshman Jovana Vukovic was also able to snatch her match at Court 3 in a comeback, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Phonexay Chitdara battled to get Houston the win at Flight 6, winning in a thriller, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. The Cougars move to 2-0 in conference play.
