The AAC

P5 or P6 doesn’t really matter its just a term that is used.

What we want out of the AAC is more TV money, which I think is likely in the next TV contract.

We also want direct access to a NY6 bowl, which we have and have a better shot than the other G5s. I believe we should have a permanent NY6 bowl spot and if we keep doing what we are doing we should have that.

We also want a shot at the National Championship which we don’t have until they expand the pkayoffs.

Administration has been positioning us for the PAC-12 for some time now.

This is both concerning and exciting.

A hurdle for the Pac12 nationally are their game start times. They would benefit from games in the Central time zone. We wouldn’t be too far from the Arizona schools and Utah (Mountain time zone, I believe). Add a Colorado St or Tx Tech if B12 falls apart? All speculation of course

What teams would you add from the AAC for the “new” AAC (I refuse to accept the B12 as the new title)? My votes: Memphis, UCF, USF.

I think that’s right, that having central time zone schools would benefit them, not to mention schools in large DMAs with great recruiting. Much depends on what happens with OU and Texas. If OU goes to either the Big 10 or SEC (and reports indicate they want out of the Big 12) without Texas, then that would force UT’s hand. They would probably have to move to the PAC. If they did, state government could pressure them to take UH and Tech with them. OK State would likely be the fourth school. I would guess the PAC would then split into the old PAC 8 for the western division and Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, and the four new programs in the eastern. They may also set up pods within those divisions to limit travel from Texas to places like Pullman and Corvallis.

If UT and OU went to the Big 10 together, decent chance the PAC would still be interested in UH and Tech (they have a big alum base in DFW) with OK State and Kansas.

Obviously speculation but there’s some information saying something like I mentioned could very possibly happen, as well as reports that the PAC wants a presence in Texas and the central time zone.

OU will not go to the Big 10. I can see UT and Kansas going.

OU has the OSU problem.

Rumor has it that the SEC wants OU very badly and will take OSU to get them

Source?

They gain absolutely no market by inviting OU. What are they going to gain by inviting OU? Windstar Casino? lol

No sources, just scuttlebutt.

OU is a blue blood and can pick their landing spot. OKC isn’t huge, but is a market and it also solidifies Dallas with so many OU grads there.

If OU doesn’t have to take OSU, they want the B1G. If it has to be a package deal, then it probably means the SEC since OSU wouldn’t be a fit at all in the B1G or PAC12. FOX wants B1G and OU is aligned with FOX. Also, the OK State govt has cut Higher Ed funding enough to where OU may not be as worried about their threats.

Kansas also is rumored to want out and the B1G wants them for Basketball. This may happen whether or not any other moves happen. If the B1G doesn’t land OU or UT, UCONN could be a target to pair with Kansas.

Texas basically has their choice after that with the caveat that they may have to ensure that Tech (and probably UH) land in good spots. They supposedly want an ACC deal like Notre Dame has where they go independent and join the ACC for all sports. This would make ESPN the happiest as it gives a boost to the ACC Network and would allow them to fold the LHN into it However, the ACC probably won’t take Tech as they aren’t a fit.

Texas may go B1G with Kansas, but they’d be giving up a lot and that may make ESPN unhappy since the B1G is more a Fox property now. Also, Tech and Houston aren’t fits.

Texas could go PAC-12 and probably bring Tech, Houston, and TCU with them giving the PAC 12 network the Texas market which they so badly need. ESPN could also entice the PAC12 to move away from Fox if need be.

If UT, OU, and KU all leave with no other movement, it’s likely that the Big 12 will add from the candidates they brought in last year. The question is whether they’d maintain P5 status. Supposedly, if they allow those three to leave early, a deal would be made to allow P5 status for a set time.

There’s also the possibility that they go to 4 conferences of 16 or 20. If 20, we probably get in. If 16, a lot will depend on Texas politics, but we’re likely on the outside looking in.

Again, just scuttlebutt. Main thing that continues to be said is that expansion is dormant until 2020 at the earliest.

If Disney buys fox, they won’t care which network a team is on. Disney will own almost all of college foorball.

Finebaum has said OU wants to join the SEC. I have also heard Big 10. Agree that OSU is an issue for them, but that doesn’t mean they’re connected at the hip, just that OSU will need a soft landing.

As for the markets OU brings, which markets does Alabama bring? Yet what school does more for that conference? As mentioned OU’s a blueblood. The SEC would just be that much better.

I can’t imagine OK legislators would be at all pleased if OK bolted a conference that would leave OSU at a financial disadvantage. The OSU issue seems to limit OKs options a bit and will likely mean they will end up at a different place than Texas.

A different place than with ut…

…lucky bastards !:sunglasses:

just curious, , , , , if Texas and OU bolt, and take one or more other members with them, Big dissolves ? ? ? ? ? AAC becomes the 5th of P5, or does it become P4 ? ? ? ? ?

Sam, you are absolutely correct in your assessment of AAC future, and i agreee with you on probable opportunities out there… After BIG makes another forceful move by likely adding OU and another Big 12 school , likely Kansas, and Texas will use that a a green light to bail on the league…We NEED PAC to respond to BIG move by expanding themselves, and adding Houston along with 3 other Big 12 schools like Tech, K State and Iowa state…worst case, we go to rebuilding Big 12 if PAC does nothing…OU could also go to SEC with okie state, and Texas could go to BIG or ACC with who ever they choose…PAC destination not likely for Texas , as PAC doesnt pay as much as BIG or ACC…

This would be to our advantage, as our team would gain two extra hours when traveling, yet be on same schedule while at home. West coast teams would loose two hours, but would gain the benefit of earlier TV exposure for some teams and games. It’s a win, win for us, a lose, win for the Pac 12 . . . . .

the AAC has no chance to be a P anything…That is why it is so important for Houston to get in PAC 12 or a rebuilt Big 12…Whether Big 12 able to rebuild depends on PAC…Lets say OU and Okie state go to SEC and Texas and Kansas go to BIG or ACC…6 remaining schools can rebuild and will…but if PAC then jumps in and takes Tech, Iowa Stae, K state along with Houston, Big 12 is doomed…West Virginia could go back the American and take our place…Baylor and TCU could join the MWC…

It becomes P4, however Disney (espn / fox) will need the conferences to be 16 teams. The way I see it shaking out is:

OU and OSU go SEC, SEC is now 16 teams
UT and Kansas go BIG, BIG is now 16 teams

That leaves the ACC needing 2 and PAC needing 4 and 6 teams (Baylor, TCU, TT, Iowa St, K State, and W Va.) left from the b12

ACC has 14 plus ND, if ND joins as a full member then they may take W Va. back or add 1 of Memphis, Cincy, or UCF. If no ND then I think they add Cincy and UCF. I say this because of the way W Va left the ACC.

That leave the PAC needing 4 and to move east. TT and UH both fit the academic profile and are central time zone. The big question is do they take TCU despite the religious affiliation to get the DFW exposure, I think they do. for the final spot do they add New Mexico in the mountain time zone or do they add K State in the central. I think they go with K State because of the central time zone. I know quite a few think they should add Boise St but the school just does come close to meeting the academic standards of the PAC, and yes it does matter.

That leaves Baylor, Iowa St, and W Va as fillers for the AAC.

Disney won’t be buying the Fox Sports or News divisions. Fox is planning on keeping those.
