Responsibilities
Participate in an array of strategic communications initiatives for TransCanada’s U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines;
Contribute to the development and delivery of communications plans (projects, issue management, media relations);
Act as a consultant to internal clients by providing communications advice, coaching and highlighting communications risks to help ensure the company’s strategic objectives are achieved;
Create engaging digital and social media website content, including rich story-telling, blog posts, clarifications, project information, questions and answers, facts and information, etc.;
Serve in emergency on-call rotation and act as a member of a corporate emergency response team;
Function as a member of the crisis response team (when appropriate);
Support the development and implementation of communication strategies; including communications plans, key messages and talking points;
Build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;
Other tasks as required.
Qualifications and Education
Qualifications:
Strong written, verbal and presentations skills;
Ability to have work assigned in terms of broad objectives to be accomplished and completed in an independent manner;
Ability to think strategically, weigh issues and recommend effective solutions;
Ability to analyze issues and develop strategies to mitigate potential negative public perception;
Advanced consulting skills; comfortable with assisting executive level and other leaders;
A team player - responsible for building rapport with team members and internal business partners;
A customer service focus;
Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines;
Must be flexible and able to work overtime when necessary;
Some experience in crisis communications a plus;
Must be able to travel, including some unplanned travel in the event of a crisis.
Education/Experience:
Public Relations, Marketing, or other communications related degree or diploma is required;
Experience working/interning in a corporate, investor-owned environment is an asset.
