UH @ Lamar - Wednesday 6pm (L 2-0)

IIRC, Rooney is associate head coach and pitching is his responsibility.

Let me know if I’m wrong on that and Whitting made the choice. I watched the Lamar broadcast and don’t remember hearing what coach came to the mound, I know it is usually Rooney however.

Thank you

I am pretty sure it was Rooney (though he was masked so I am not 100 per cent sure. I don’t think we will ever know the full decision making process.

I know that it happens to other top programs as well, but I can’t stand losing to “smaller” programs. What happened to the bats that performed last Saturday? Did it turn out to be CC’s very bad pitching rather than top Cougar plate performance? The team is still very very promising.

I watched the last 4 innings or so. Lamar’s defense definitely contributed to the shutout. There were two pretty good outfield plays in the top of the 8th inning for example.

The umpire also had a pretty wide strike zone. It’s very difficult for hitters to get comfortable up there with such a huge margin of error benefitting pitchers. Of course, that helped us too until Deese came in and only had 2 locations for his pitches: well out of the strike zone or right down the pipe.

UH has a BIG series coming up!

Their pitcher did a good job of making us chase though. Solid outing by him. I really hope that Rivas is ok.

Even small teams usually have one good pitcher. Why it is hard to win a three game series and sometimes a mid-week game if the smaller school pitches their good pitcher.

Did not check the Lamar website on their pitcher, purely speculation on my part.

From what I could tell - the Lamar starting pitcher, Trevinn Michael, is their Ace. He looked very sharp to me, particularly effective off speed pitches. However, the other three pitchers for Lamar were equally dominant over the UH bats (Michael gave up 3 hits in 5 innings, the other three gave up 2 hits in 4 innings). I guess we will know more after this weekend, but to date - UH has had 5 big offensive outings, but 3 of those were vs. TSU, which has been generally marked by giving up a lot of runs subsequent to playing UH.

This is somewhat good news, although you don’t want to aggravate anything.
